TOYOTA SHUTS DOWN PLANT IN CHINA OVER CORONA VIRUS

Toyota Motor Corps will be closed down through February 9 because of the outbreak of the corona virus which is brought about an alarm rate of fatalities.

Toyota has plants in the northern city of Tianjin and also in the southern province of Guangdong. It is also said that the closure which were in line with the Lunar New Year holidays were also in line with the transport lockdown in some places. Parts come into the plants through these transport systems. The United States and Japan evacuated their citizens from the city of Wuhan which was a quarantine. British airways was said to have cut flights from mainland China. These developments came up as fatalities have risen to 132. This epidemic has brought about a worldwide alarm.

Travellers with the illness were being identified all around the world but a huge number have been in the central province of Hubei which has its capital city as Wuhan where the virus emerged last month in a live wild animal market. The Chinese President, Xi Jinping has said that the situation is grim and complex.

Many Chinese cities were deserted and those who could come out were on masks. Several people from all over the world with trips to China already have those truncated. Several companies have cut travels to China and airlines have also cut flights to the region.

The U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said about 210 Americans had been flown out of Wuhan. The people aboard the flight would be screened severally and evaluated on arrival in California, it said in a statement released through the United States embassy in Beijing. An official of the U.S. government said that there were 50 diplomats and contractors among the passengers. U.S. officials said that the White House was weighing whether to suspend flights to China or not. It was also holding daily meetings on the outbreak and monitoring China-U.S. flights as likely source of infection.

Experts believe that the virus is not as deadly as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) but there has been some serious alarm over its spread and other unknowns surrounding including how deadly it really is. Just like other respiratory infections, it is spread by droplets of sneezes and coughs with an incubation period of 1 to 14 days. There are possibilities of it spreading before any symptoms emanates. So far, there have been about 60 cases with no fatalities reported in other countries including France, Singapore and the United States.

Hyundai Motor Company has taken to Twitter to make a statement, “We have decided to offer individual protection items for Wuhan such as anti-contamination clothing, disposable masks and goggles. Let’s pray for them”.

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group commonly known as Geely has taken to their Twitter handle to communicate and we quote, ”Geely and our global family are united in support of the fight against the new coronavirus.” The group is also cooperating with a public welfare foundation over this same issue.
